The United Kingdom includes four separate countries, England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern of Ireland. The island of Ireland contains a fifth state , the Republic of Ireland , which is not part of the United Kingdom.
British society is changing rapidly. But despite this , the British character still has many recognisable feature. This chapter describes some of them.
Reserve : When people talk about the British character, they usually mention the famous " British reserve " . There's a restaurant with one table occupied by the British , another by the Fresh, Chinese, and so on. And there'll probably be someone on it who's trying, without success.
DO: to catch the waiter's eye and doesn't like to shout across the room.
Tolerance : The British capacity for tolerance is linked to their reserve their shyness, if you prefer. Because they dislike complaining publicly, the British will endure considerable inconvinience in stoical silence.
